LiNetS @ Sunway Uni Health Week 2022

5 September 2022

Suicide Prevention

LINetS was invited to participate at the Sunway University’s Health Week to raise awareness on mental health and suicide prevention. This event was organised by the Sunway Student Volunteers (SSV) from 29th Aug to 2nd Sept.. The objective of the Health Week is to promote health as a whole and address the importance of health-related issues for the students in Sunway University.

Our LINetS field coordinator, Dr Jill, in house clinical-psychologist, Melissa Nuah and Caitlyn, a student volunteer were on the ground sharing about mental health, specifically on self-harm and suicide prevention. Information were displayed on common stigmas against people struggling mentally and going through suicidal tendencies.

Students who visited the LINetS booth appreciated the information shared and were thankful for the insights that they gained.

“I think everyone knows how important health is, but it always seems like it is a hassle for them to purposely go to all these health care services or centers just to get their check-ups,” said Chew Su Jie, SSV Vice president.

“So, I think it’s important that we bring this to the students, and even to the Sunway staff. So that it becomes more accessible to them,” added Chew.

LINetS, as an institution to inspire life, believes that this journey called life is beautiful and a gift from God that should be guarded and grown to its fullest potential. Collectively, our efforts can cushion the pain and change the path of people, especially young people, silently crying out for help.

Therefore, if you do find people around you or yourself struggling, do please contact us at info@linets.org.my or visit us on our social media channels here and here.
